ALCOVE YOGA ONLINE

All Yoga classes are now being held online.

Below is a list of currently available classes.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS

Our online Intermediate Class is for experienced students who have been through Ignite! classes or have practiced Iyengar Yoga before. Intermediate students are assumed to know how to practice inversions--or appropriate alternatives with prop setups.

In all Intermediate classes we begin seated with an invocation to the Sage Patanjali. This is a Sanskrit chant to pay homage to the tradition of Patanjali yoga which goes back for thousands of years. The invocation brings us inward and helps us cultivate humility and reverence for the sacred subject of yoga.

Students should have a place to practice in their homes with clear wall space, mat, blocks, blankets, strap, bolster, and chair.

In all intermediate level classes we also schedule the last week of the month for restorative asanas and pranayama.

• SCHEDULE:   Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:15 to 6:45 pm and Sundays, 4:00 to 5:30 pm

PRENATAL YOGA

Our online Prenatal Yoga is a 90 minute class exclusively for pregnant women. Registration is done monthly, limited to 14. Pauline went through two pregnancies as a student and teacher of Iyengar Yoga, She has been teaching pregnant women since 2009.

Learn safe postures for the growing needs of mother and child throughout the pregnancy, to calm the mind, relieve aches and pains, and improve the quality of sleep and rest. Some classes will be devoted to pranayama (breathing exercises).

The cornerstone of Iyengar Yoga is correct alignment with intelligent actions. One must take care to work carefully with the alignment of muscles and joints to avoid injury, fatigue, or undue strain during pregnancy.

And yet, the pregnant woman should work to become stronger, more resilient, and to feel good physically and mentally. Effort and concentration is required to learn the postures and work in them for maximum benefit.

Live Streaming Yoga Classes through Wellness Living and Zoom.us

How it Works:

  • You can register now through the schedule posted on alcoveyoga.com/login. This takes you to our client management software, Wellness Living. All current class packs are valid for online classes.

  • Wellness Living is integrated with Zoom. You will receive an email reminder for the class 2 hours before  class start time, with a web link to join Zoom meeting of the class. It's not necessary to sign up 2 hours in advance, but please don't wait until the last minute. Please open the email with the link on the device you will use for the virtual class.

  • Zoom is a video conferencing software that can be used on Mac, windows pc, or any mobile device. It is free for Alcove students. You can download it here. The zoom download and install process happens only the first time (if zoom is not already installed). Subsequent zoom meetings will skip the installation process.

  • The simplest install and operation is probably to use an iPad (or another large screen tablet) propped up to where student can see the screen and the built-in camera is pointed at the student.

  • Students should make every effort to setup zoom and their built-in camera or external camera ahead of time so technical glitches are worked out in advance.

  • About 10 minutes before class, click the emailed Zoom link from info@alcoveyoga.com to join the class.

  • If you have trouble accessing a class at the scheduled time, don't freak out. Take a breath and email me at info@alcoveyoga.com. There will be glitches in the beginning. We will all get better at this.

  • Classes will be adjusted for minimal props.  Set up a practice area in your home with an open space and, if possible, a few props before the start of class:  a mat, strap, blankets, bolster, and blocks. A chair is also great!
